What is LiveAI?

LIVE AI is a fresh multi-campus hybrid hackathon that invites you to join us at either of our host campuses, Duke University (LIVE AI Duke) and Harvard University (LIVE AI Harvard), as well as online (LIVE AI Global) in February 2025! Both LIVE AI Duke and LIVE AI Harvard will provide full in-person hackathon experiences, and all three communities will connect with each other through speaker panels and fun activities.

LIVE AI is a fresh multi-campus hybrid hackathon that invites you to join us at either of our host campuses, Duke University (LIVE AI Duke) and Harvard University (LIVE AI Harvard), as well as online (LIVE AI Global) on March 23 - 24. Both LIVE AI Duke and LIVE AI Harvard will provide full in-person hackathon experiences, and all three communities will connect with each other through speaker panels and fun activities.

Our themes are artificial intelligence, blockchain / web3, and financial technology.

You’ll need to join our Discord and fill out this registration form, where you will indicate your preferred host campus, Duke University or Harvard University.

If you are an aspiring creative, developer, or entrepreneur who is 13 years or older, then you are eligible to join LIVE AI Global!

If you are 18 years or older, then you may also join LIVE AI Duke or LIVE AI Harvard by traveling to our host campuses. All LIVE AI participants are automatically enrolled into LIVE AI Global.

LIVE AI starts with check-ins on March 23 (Saturday) at 10:00 am EDT and runs until 3:00 pm EDT. This schedule is largely the same for both host campuses. Coding will start on March 23 (Saturday) at 12:00 pm (noon) EDT and end on March 24 (Sunday) at 12:00 pm (noon) EDT.

For participants at Duke University, you will be at CIEMAS (101 Science Dr, Durham, NC 27705).

For participants at Harvard University, you will be at the SOCH (59 Shepard St, Cambridge, MA 02138).

For online participants, we will interact with you on our Discord, and we have activities that encourage onsite and online participants to have fun with each other.

Bring your laptop, chargers, ethernet cables (or just use Wi-Fi), sleeping bags, potential toiletries, any other hackathon materials and supplies you want, and energy for a fun weekend!

Our themes are artificial intelligence, blockchain / web3, and financial technology.

That's great! We will have workshops from March 18 through March 21, as well as lots of online and onsite mentors to help you design, develop, and demo real-world solutions involving artificial intelligence, blockchain / web3, and financial technology.

Our sponsors will also provide resources to help you navigate various technologies.

If you need anything else, we recommend searching online, especially Stack Overflow.

We welcome all software and hardware hacks that align with our three themes: artificial intelligence, blockchain / web3, and financial technology.

On March 24 (Sunday), at both host campuses, we will award prizes to the top two teams in each of our three themes.

On April 7 (Sunday), we will award online international prizes to our online winners, including the top teams in each of our three themes.

LIVE AI is completely free to attend!

Yes, we encourage everyone to work in teams with an upper limit of 4 people. There’s always a lot you can learn from each other, and this is a great chance to continue building existing friendships and find new friends, maybe even a new best friend!

On March 22, we will have Friday night mixers at both host campuses so everyone can meet each other. After Opening Ceremonies on March 23, we will have team-building exercises to continue helping people find new teammates.

Of course, our Discord also has channels where you can start looking for teammates!

You may register to serve as a mentor (onsite or online) and apply to serve as a judge (onsite or online). You’ll also need to join our Discord for communication purposes. If you want to sponsor LIVE AI, please send an email to team@techtreeroot.org with LIVE AI Sponsorship as your subject line.

Rules & Regulations

For the competition, participants may form teams of up to 4 people. Each team must design, develop, and demo products that incorporate at least one of the following three themes: artificial intelligence, blockchain/web3, or financial technology. These products can be developed in various formats, including web, mobile, game, data, XR, among others, and can address a wide range of topics such as art/music, athletics/sports, civic/politics, environment/green initiatives, finance/economics, health/medicine, social/empowerment, etc. For more inspiration and ideas, participants are advised to review the prize package details.

For onsite judging and prizes, you must demo your product at Duke University or Harvard University on March 24.

For online judging and international prizes, submit a demo video lasting 120 - 180 seconds. The video submission deadline is 2025 February 23 at 12:00 pm (noon) EDT. You may also submit any supporting documents, files, images, etc.

Prizes

The LIVE AI Hackathon is set to offer $15,000 in prizes across a variety of categories, with each prize being awarded at three major events: LIVE AI Duke, LIVE AI Harvard, and LIVE AI Global. Participants can compete in numerous fields including Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain/Web3, and Financial Technology.

Furthermore, participants utilizing Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) blockchain technology are eligible for the ICP.HUB North America Prize Package, and those employing CESS (Cumulus Encrypted Storage System) technology can compete for the CESS Prize Package, adding more opportunities for innovators to showcase their talents and potentially win significant rewards.
